Dat is de uitkomst van de verkiezing van Fietsstad 2018 van de Fietsersbond. Het is de tweede keer dat Houten de titel wint.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008 behaalde de Utrechtse plaats ook al de eerste plek. \u201cSindsdien heeft de gemeente niet stilgezeten. Bij station Houten werd een innovatief fietstransferium gebouwd waar fietsers naadloos kunnen overstappen op de trein\u201d, aldus de Fietsersbond. Het ontwerp van deze fietsparkeervoorziening is gemaakt door studioSK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEr is continu aandacht voor de fietser. Het is een opvallende gemeente\u201d,\u00a0zegt directeur Saskia Kluit van de Fietsersbond. \u201cDe consequente keuze voor de fiets als volwaardig vervoermiddel leidt tot een gemeente waar fietsen nog meer de norm is geworden. Onderdeel van het fietsnetwerk is bijvoorbeeld ook de Vijfwalbrug, de fietsbrug over het spoor die eveneens ontworpen is door studioSK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDe verkiezing Fietsstad is gebaseerd op een enqu\u00eate die door 45.000 mensen is ingevuld. Ze gaven zo hun mening over het fietsen in hun gemeente.
